The reason why I've gotten tired of World of Warcraft is the fact that it doesn't seem to be teaching me anything anymore. Playing Yaphirlem is repetition for loot I don't consider worthwhile, and the calculations for the most efficient way to do that is not something I do. Alts are variations on a theme, and unless I tried to do PvP it would be equally boring, and I can't do PvP on Cenarion Circle because of the wait time. On Mal'Ganis my priest is a paltry level 28 (4 levels yesterday before I grew bored), which makes it difficult to do anything fun in battlegrounds.
So I've been looking into other MMOs for something with the capability to teach me the skills I'm looking for. I think
EVE online has a lot of potential.
It's a much more harsh, capitalistic, economy based game. WITH SPACESHIPS. It's actually everything I never knew I wanted out of Homeworld.
My Homeworld strategy was so resource efficient that my spacefleet was composed of a single group of fighters and four or five innocuous space-tugs.
The fighters flew in and Gnatted the enemy fleet into dissarray.
The Capital ships had a lot of difficulty keeping up with fighters and were easily separated, while enemy fighters were led off by my squad's hit and run attacks.
The space tugs stole the enemy fleet, one ship at a time, picking off the outliers created by complex maneuvers the fighters had practiced for days on end.
Once I had taken three-quarters of the enemy fleet, we flew in and slaughtered the remaining quarter.
I made sure that fighter squad always got the last shot.
The funny part was when the last level adjusted the size of the enemy fleet to your fleet... and I had saved my conquests from the mission before. The ensuing battle was so epic that my computer never could handle it, and I didn't have any other save points.
Made me laugh. Once.
Anyway, I plan on going into the education office today and talking to some teachers to get my work-study money as funding for the research of my idea of EVE Online as Business Education in real-life entrepreneurship without the credit and real-money risks.
Barring that, I'll convince a lawyer to help me make my own company pro-bono based on the fact that the first 1,400 dollars are assured as soon as I pass the Work-Study muster, and pay myself to do it.
Wish me luck?
